What would a perfect school be like?

In order to know our students‘ opinion about how the perfect school should be like, we conducted a survey to the students on the Comenius Team.

The survey involved 40 FORAVE´s students who studied Electronics, Automation and Command (TEAC), Industrial Maintenance (TMI), Company Management (TG), Processing and Food Quality Control (TPQA) and Polymer Technology (TTP).

The majority of students studied TG and TEAC, and 28 of the answers were from female students. Thirty students are between 15 and 17 years old, 8 are 18 and 19 years old and the oldest student is 20 years old.

Most of our students prefers a small school with less than 300 students (38) and they think their knlowedge and skills could improve if vocational schools provided for more Educational  field trips (18),  Job-shadowing periods (5) and Longer training periods (17).

They also considered that  lessons would be more interesting and motivating  if school facilities were better (28), but also if the students themselves were more motivated, interested and hardworking (12).

The majority of students (35) stated that  a school day should last 5 or 6 hours and that they you prefer strict and demanding, but also caring teachers.

Surprisingly, thirty-eight students considered tests are necessary, and only six suggested project works as a way of assessment. Also, surprisingly, all the students considered that parent involvement in school improves students' behaviour, attendance, and achievement.

In what concerns the connection between school and the world of work, the majority of students thinks it´s important for schools to have partnerships with companies and that these partnerships  help students to  have a real understanding of the world of work, to improve their professional skills and to find a job more easily.

Finally, 32 students considered that a perfect school is a place where students learn social as well as educational skills and 8 of them considered school as a place for creating an easier link with the world of work.
